Dr Ravi Sankaran

Eminent field biologist and champion of the Bengal florican and the Edible nest swiftlet, popular and respected by his peers and an example and inspiration to many, passed away suddenly at the age of 46 in Bangalore on the morning of January 17. Dr Ravi Sankaran has only recently taken over as Director of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History.

‘’Everyone who knew Ravi was aware of his meticulous research, in sometimes very inhospitable terrains, and his commitment to conservation.

‘’India has lost an excellent conservationist and field biologist, and species like the Edible-nest swiftlet have lost their most prominent champion.’’

 – Ashish Kothari, Kalpavriksh
